<image:caption>SPLINTER REEDS Splinter Reeds is a paradigm-shifting reed quintet, celebrated for their virtuosic performances and adventurous programming. For more than a decade, the ensemble has been instrumental in shepherding new compositions into the contemporary chamber music repertoire by some of the foremost composers of our time while equally championing music by a new generation of artists. Founded in 2013 in Oakland, California, the ensemble comprises five musicians who are pioneers of their practice, individually expanding the possibilities of their instruments and collectively reimagining what a modern reed quintet can sound like. Splinter Reeds features Kyle Bruckmann (oboe), Bill Kalinkos (clarinet), Nicki Roman (saxophone), Jeff Anderle (bass clarinet), and Dana Jessen (bassoon).</image:caption>

<image:title>Set - Set by Dana Jessen and Taylor Brook</image:title>
<image:caption>Bassoonist Dana Jessen and composer Taylor Brook team up for a collaborative album length electro-acoustic work, Set, that combines through composed (Songs) and improvised sections. Much attention in the composed sections is devoted to an exploration of a range of extended techniques on the bassoon that Jessen has cultivated. The improvised sections are framed by guidelines that Brook provided and computer improvisation that accompanies the instrumental soloist. In these ways, the boundaries between composer and performer are blurred. Set is Jessen's third solo album and newest addition to the canon of works she has cultivated that blur the lines between composition, improvisation, and interpretation. Set was released in 2023 as part of the New Focus Recordings catalog and can also be found on Bandcamp.</image:caption>
